The Federal Government has announced the formation of new Industry Capability Teams to assist small-to-medium water and clean technology firms access new domestic and international customers.

The Industry Capability Teams will bring together Australian small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs) with complementary skills to increase their competitiveness by pooling marketing skills as well as giving greater accessibility to collaborative bids for larger projects.

Water Supplier Advocate Mr Bob Herbert is working to establish the teams. "The Capability Teams will lead to greater opportunities among local suppliers for new and larger projects," Mr Herbert said.

"The aim is for team members to increase sales and better promote Australian products, technologies and services, ultimately making our water and clean technology industries more competitive."

The Capability Teams are an initiative of the Australian Government's Clean Technology Focus for Supply Chains program and part of a $50 million support package for Australian firms at home and abroad. They will be developed in partnership with peak industry bodies, waterAUSTRALIA and Australian CleanTech.

National workshops will be held in October and November to seek firms' participation and input into the priorities for the Capability Teams.

Companies can register their interest by visiting www.wateraustralia.org for the water capability teams or www.auscleantech.com.au for clean technologies capability teams.
