Goulburn-Murray Water (GMV) has announced it has received final approval to increase the Annual Use Limits (AUL) for all customers in the 2012/13 season.

The AUL, which is a condition that specifies the maximum amount of water that can be applied annual to a property, has been increased in a bid to counter the protracted dry spell in the area.

GMV’s Managing Director, Gavin Hanlon, said that the 25 per cent increases to AUL’s for the season was a timely boon for customers.

"In recognition of the dryer conditions this year, GMW applied for an increase in AUL's on behalf of its customers. This increase has now been approved and the limits which are contained in the Victorian Water Register have already been updated," Mr Hanlon said.

GMW gained approval for the increase from the Department of Sustainability and Environment with the support of local Catchment Management Authorities, and all agencies are keen to reinforce the need for on farm best practice to ensure sustainable irrigation in the region.

"GMW is continuing to work with customers who have exceeded their AUL in past seasons and those who are likely to exceed this season," said Mr Hanlon.
