Paradise Dam funds matched
The Federal Government has agreed to fund the remaining $600 million cost of fixing Queensland’s Paradise Dam.
The Commonwealth has agreed to split the cost of restoring the dam to its full 300,000 megalitre capacity with the Queensland Government, following a plea from the state.
Paradise Dam provides much of the water that growers in the Wide Bay-Burnett region rely on. Restoring the wall will nearly double the dam’s capacity, after it was lowered by 5.8 metres in 2020 due to structural concerns.
The $1.2 billion project is expected to create about 250 construction jobs, and is seen as a gift of confidence to local farmers.
