South Australian not-for-profit organisations have a new opportunity to secure funding for environmental and recreational projects.

SA Water's Reservoirs Partnership Program, now in its fifth year, is offering up to $10,000 in financial support for initiatives at the state’s open access reservoir reserves.

The program aims to encourage innovative ideas that focus on environmental conservation, outdoor recreation, and community education.

James Crocker, SA Water’s Senior Manager of Environment and Energy, says these community spaces are hugely important.

“These places of natural beauty have been transformed into recreational destinations and we want to activate these spaces further,” he said.

Over the past four years, the program has supported a variety of initiatives.

“We’ve supported many wonderful initiatives and are excited to help deliver new projects that enhance visitor experiences and provide opportunities for everyone to enjoy our reserves,” Crocker said.

Among the successful recipients in 2023-24 were women’s kayaking workshops, a walking event, an art workshop co-facilitated with a Kaurna artist, and an underwater camera project to monitor the endangered Murray Cod.

SA Water says these projects not only enhance the reservoir reserves but also foster a culture of community stewardship and environmental appreciation.

“If your not-for-profit organisation has an idea that aligns with our criteria and benefits your local community, we’d love to hear from you,” Crocker said.

Applications for the 2024-25 Reservoirs Partnership Program close on 20 September 2024. For more information on eligible activities and groups, or to apply, visit SA Water’s Reservoirs Partnership Program page.
