Victorian Government to establish Murray advisory group
The Victorian Government has announced it will be establishing a regional advisory group that will be tasked with providing input and advice into the development of the Murray Darling Basin Plan.
State Water Minister Peter Walsh has confirmed that the body will consist of community, farming, industry, business and local government stakeholders.
Mr Walsh said that the creation of the body is in reaction to growing public dissatisfaction with the handling of the Murray Darling area.
"The authority now has an opportunity to engage in a meaningful way with Victoria through this regional advisory group.
"Those concerns have been reiterated by the Windsor report released last week which called for the authority to engage with communities on a catchment-by-catchment basis.” Mr Walsh said.
"It is vital northern Victoria communities have real input and a genuine say in how the final plan is drafted."
