WA moves to protect Kununurra water supply
The Western Australian Government has promised to protect Kununurra’s water supply while also allowing for planned development to go ahead.
The Kununurra Water Reserve drinking water source protection review identifies measures to protect water quality in the Kimberley region and updates the 2003 Kununurra water reserve drinking water source protection plan.
State Minister for Water, Terry Redman, said the Department of Water review supported the integrity of the Kununurra water source and the sustainable growth of the region.
“The 2012 review provides a snapshot of action taken in the Kununurra Water Reserve since 2003,” Mr Redman said.
“This includes additional drilling, monitoring and modelling investigations in the water reserve, as well as consultation with community and government stakeholders.
“Most significantly, the review document outlines how adjustments to the water reserve boundary will allow for more development without compromising the safety and reliability of the water source.”
