Join Alcoa's WA Mining Environment Team as an Environmental Scientist specialising in Water & Catchment Protection. This exciting opportunity offers a unique blend of environmental challenges and professional growth within a global leader in aluminium production. This role will be offered as a 14 month fixed term contract position to cover maternity leave.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategically oversee and enhance the environmental management systems, ensuring strict adherence to regulatory requirements and continuous improvement of operational performance across the WA mining operations.
  • Foster collaborative relationships with government agencies, stakeholders, and internal teams to effectively address environmental concerns, drive sustainable solutions, and promote positive change.
  • Conduct rigorous audits, meticulously monitor environmental performance, and prepare comprehensive reports that accurately assess compliance, identify areas for improvement, and inform decision-making.
  • Provide expert technical advice on water and catchment protection, leveraging in-depth knowledge and experience to implement best practices and mitigate environmental risks.
  • Lead and support a diverse range of environmental projects, including strategic initiatives, ensuring successful execution, adherence to timelines, and achievement of project objectives.
  • Provide support to various stakeholder groups including Huntly and Willowdale Mine Environmental Operations teams and liaise closely with Mining Studies and Approvals teams to ensure that environmental commitments and obligations are understood, documented in Environmental Management Plans, and implemented by Operational groups.

What you can bring to the role:

To play a part in our ongoing success we are seeking someone with:

  • Ideally you will hold Degree qualifications in Environmental Science/Environmental Management (or similar)
  • Strong understanding of environmental regulations and best practices, with preference given to subject matter expertise in Water and Catchment Protection
  • Experience in mining or a similar industry is preferred
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proven ability to manage projects and teams effectively

About the Location

Huntly is one of our two bauxite mines in Western Australia. Established in 1976 and located east of North Dandalup in WA, it is the world’s second largest bauxite mine, supplying ore to Alcoa’s Pinjarra alumina refinery.
