About the roles
The City of Coffs Harbour has multiple opportunities for experienced Leading Hands to join our Water and Wastewater Services Team. The Leading Hand will be responsible for their team, ensuring works are delegated appropriately and allocated tasks are managed to make the best use of plant, materials, time, and resources.
As a Leading Hand, you'll play an important role in operating, maintaining, and constructing our infrastructure. Your leadership will help us deliver high levels of service to our community members while fostering a positive and proactive team.

Leading Hand Wastewater Key Responsibilities include.
- Lead and coordinate the team in performing pipeline CCTV inspections for sewer and stormwater systems.
- Oversee sewer rehabilitation investigations, including infiltration/inflow investigations and smoke testing.
- Manage maintenance and repair works on mains and sewers, ensuring compliance with technical, safety, and environmental standards.
- Effectively respond to sewer chokes, providing timely clearances and support to affected residents.
- Assist with minor mains construction activities as required.
- Promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement within the team.
Leading Hand Water Key Responsibilities include.
- Lead and support your team in performing maintenance and repairs on water mains and infrastructure.
- Conduct inspections and coordinate the installation of new water services.
- Monitor and maintain water quality at reservoirs across the City
- Collaborate with your team to troubleshoot and resolve water-related issues efficiently.
- Promote a culture of safety by ensuring compliance with Work Health and Safety regulations.
- Act as a liaison with the community, providing information and addressing any customer concerns.
About you?
We are looking for positive and proactive natural leaders with prior experience in Water or Wastewater operations-related fields, to provide input as required to the ongoing review of staff operations to ensure delegation, accountability, flexibility and adaptability are accepted and implemented where applicable by all staff.
Strong leadership skills with the ability to mentor and guide team members and great communication skills with a customer-focused attitude.
A thorough understanding of Work Health and Safety practises and the desire and proactive nature to monitor and actively collaborate with your Supervisor and Coordinators to improve work methodologies.
These positions may require the successful candidates to participate in an on-call roster for after-hours emergencies.
Qualifications , Licenses and Experience
Essential
- Experience in construction, maintenance, repairs and operation of water/sewer mains and services
- MR licence
- Certificate III in Water Industry Operations or equivalent trade qualification
- National Construction Induction Training Certificate (White card)
Desirable
- MSMSS00021 Operate a hydro excavation system
- First aid certificate
- Traffic control certificate
- Safely access rail corridors
- Chemical Certificate
- Working at Heights
- Working near overhead powerlines
- Asbestos awareness
- Confined Space Certificate
- Demonstrated knowledge of plant and equipment operation, maintenance and safety procedures for: backhoe, truck, pumps, compressors, concrete mixers, generators, power tools and pipe locating equipment.

- Salary starting from $62, 642.48 per annum + Superannuation
- Permanent Full-Time role (38 hours per week)
