Randwick City Council is an innovative and progressive local government committed to serving our vibrant community on the eastern beaches of Sydney. Randwick City Council embraces nine beaches, seven ocean pools and thirteen coastal reserves. Randwick has some of the most beautiful coastline and beaches in Australia. The primary role of the Randwick City Council Lifeguards is to provide a safe swimming environment for the community at beaches in the Randwick area including the Coogee and Maroubra Beaches which are patrolled all year, and Clovelly beach which is patrolled during the summer season only.

Applications are currently being sought from highly motivated and qualified Beach Lifeguards to join our team on a casual basis. As a Casual Beach Lifeguard, you will be required to provide search and rescue service for the City's coastal waters, establish and maintain a safe recreational environment, and provide emergency medical care when required on our beaches.

The successful applicants will be required to make informed decisions that involve critical incidents; interpret natural conditions and weather; communicate effectively with the public; control large numbers of people in a manner to ensure compliance with beach regulations; and enhance the service image of Council.

To be considered for these positions, you must have experience and proficiency in surf lifesaving, or professional lifeguarding on open ocean surf beaches in a wide range of conditions. Candidates will also be required to have a high level of physical fitness and will be required to undergo a physical test and medical examination. Your application will also need to address how your skills and experience meets the additional essential criteria: 

  • A NSW waterways PWC Licence
  • A Bronze Medallion (Surf) and/or a Certificate II in Public Safety (Aquatic Rescue).
  • A Spinal Injury Management certificate.
  • A class C driver licence.
  • An Advanced Resuscitation (CPR) certificate.
  • An Apply (Senior) First Aid certificate (including a Defibrillation (AED) certificate).
  • Demonstrated ability to successful experience in working as part of a team.
  • High level interpersonal, communication and conflict resolution skills, with a diverse range of people and groups.
  • A NSW Working with Children Clearance, as per the Child Protection (Working With Children) Act 2012.

 It would also be highly advantageous if you possess the following desirable criteria: 

  • An Inflatable Rescue Boat (IRB) award.
  • A Silver Medallion – Basic Beach Management.
  • An All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) Operator certificate.
  • An ability to use a range of computer applications such as databases, spread sheets and word processing.
